The world premiere of Groundhog Day a new musical directed by Old Vic Artistic Director Matthew Warchus.. Groundhog Day is the story of Phil Connors (Andy Karl), a cynical Pittsburgh TV weatherman who is sent to cover the annual Groundhog Day event in the isolated small town of Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania, when he finds himself caught in a time loop, forced to repeat the same day again and The critically acclaimed hit show, Groundhog Day, directed by Matthew Warchus, with book by Danny Rubin, and music and lyrics by Tim Minchin will return to The Old Vic from 20 May–12 August 2023. Andy Karl will reprise his Olivier Award-winning role as the cynical TV weatherman Phil Connors in a 12-week run. Groundhog Day The Musical is brought to the stage by an award-winning creative team, including composer and lyricist Tim Minchin (Matilda), writer Danny Rubin, and director Matthew Warchus (Matilda, A Christmas Carol). Groundhog Day The Musical most recently played at The Old Vic theatre from 20 May to 19 August 2023. After years of anticipation, the celebrated production of Groundhog Day is finally set to return to London's Old Vic Theatre in 2023! Groundhog Day is an ideal blend of a hilarious comedy and a thought-provoking story about life's lessons, ultimately making for the perfect entertainment. He originated the role at the Old Vic in 2016, and later played Phil in Groundhog Day on Broadway. Karl won an Olivier Award for Best Actor in a Musical, and earned a Tony Award nomination for Best Actor. The first “Groundhog Day” celebration of its kind took place at Gobbler’s Knob in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania, on 2 Feb. 1887. It’s a musical audiences wanted to see again, and again, and again and now Tim Minchin’s Groundhog Day is back at the Old Vic Theatre for a second, strictly limited season in summer 2023.
