Scrooged puts a modern spin on the Christmas tale of A Christmas Carol, while Groundhog Day showcases Murray's dramatic talents in a unique story about a time loop. Groundhog Day is considered superior to Scrooged, lauded as one of Murray's best films, and credited with popularizing the concept of a recurring situation. "Groundhog Day," which celebrated its 21st birthday earlier this month, is in many ways a clever variation on Dickens' "A Christmas Carol" – and certainly a warmer, more heartfelt version than 12 Dates of Christmas is a festive version of Groundhog Day with maybe a bit of A Christmas Carol thrown in.
